East End Disability Associates
Creating Opportunities for Happy Lives
East End Disability Associates (EEDA) is recognized as one of the top human service agencies on Long Island because of our exceptional staff and the individuals we serve. With over 848 dedicated employees, we work tirelessly every day to ensure that people with disabilities have the opportunity to live fulfilling lives. The staff’s commitment and passion is the driving force behind our mission.
Recently, Danielle Neff, an Assistant Coordinator for EEDA’s Creative Arts Program, was featured on the DSP Talk Podcast, where she shared her journey as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Initially unsure about this line of work, Danielle’s fiancé encouraged her to enter the field. Within a month of working at EEDA, she discovered that being a DSP was one of her best decisions, as it is a career where her work truly matters. Danielle emphasized that being a DSP is not just about assisting people with disabilities in their daily living needs, but also providing support so that they can be the best version of themselves. Despite the dedication and passion of our staff, New York State does not fully fund the costs of adequate training for our DSPs. This lack of funding hampers our efforts to ensure sustainability, growth, and career development for our workforce. We respectfully appeal to you to consider supporting our “Staff Development Program”, which is crucial for the future of our workforce and the people we serve. Following EEDA’s traditional orientation, the Staff Development Program provides “on-the-job training” by a seasoned Staff Development Coordinator. This Coordinator works alongside our new DSPs, teaching them the importance of meeting the needs and expectations of those we support in alignment with industry best practices, agency policies, and OPWDD regulations. This training allows DSPs like Danielle to be prepared to perform their essential roles at the highest level, benefiting the people they support, their coworkers, and the EEDA organization. Your donation will help us support essential staff so they can have the greatest positive influence on the people we support, promoting the opportunity for happy lives. PS . . . We have seen the impact of this program, it really makes a difference. |
