After School Therapeutic
Recreation Program
After School Therapeutic Recreation Program (ASTRP) serves school-aged developmentally disabled children in an atmosphere of safety, respect and dignity. EEDA’s highly trained staff, while working with a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, adhere to the most comprehensive professional standards available, while working to empower the individuals in their care to socialize appropriately. By teaching appropriate choices, children can lead a more enriched and enhanced life and maximize their full potential. The staff works in conjunction with New York State, families and school districts to ensure the program’s excellence.
ASTRP offers the children the opportunity to choose to participate in various activities including art, music, puzzle building, sports, and games. The goal is to enhance the children’s leisure activities in the hope that the more they practice their interpersonal skills, the more likely it is that they will generalize these skills for use in all aspects of their lives.
